Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and organized Activities Director to join our team at Birkwood Village of Tama/Toledo. The Activities Director is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing a diverse and engaging calendar of activities that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being for our senior residents. This position plays a vital role in enhancing residents’ quality of life and creating a vibrant, welcoming community.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule, and lead a wide variety of individual and group activities, including social events, recreational outings, exercise programs, educational workshops, and arts and crafts.

  • Tailor activities to meet the physical and cognitive abilities, interests, and needs of all residents.

  • Coordinate with other departments (nursing, dietary, etc.) to support residents’ overall well-being.

  • Maintain an updated monthly calendar of events and ensure residents and families are informed.

  • Maintain an updated monthly newsletter of events and ensure residents and families are informed.
  • Supervise and train activity assistants and manage volunteer programs.

  • Track resident participation and evaluate program effectiveness.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as facility policies.

  • Decorate common areas for holidays and special events to create a warm and festive environment.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, and community organizations.

  • Obtain and maintain a valid chauffeur license (or equivalent commercial license required by the state) to operate the facility vehicle.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

  • Empathetic, energetic, and able to motivate and engage seniors with various physical and cognitive abilities.

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, calendar software).

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with activity setup and transportation as needed.


Working Conditions:

  • Indoor and outdoor work; must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays for special events.
